Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation

The Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation inspires our community to invest in excellence in child health, research and family centred care. This year’s beneficiary is the KidSIM Pediatric Patient Simulation Program. Like flight simulation for pilots, high-tech patient simulation is recognized as the new “gold standard” in medical education. Our community helped the Alberta Children’s Hospital become a pioneer this field, supporting the establishment of this crucial training program and the opening of the largest on-site center for pediatric simulation in the country. The KidSIM lab prepares specialists for real-life emergencies using sophisticated mannequins that simulate breathing, pulses, blood pressure, speech and sound during mock trauma and resuscitation drills. Thanks to continued donor funding, the KidSIM team has also piloted a training program for parents of chronically-ill children so they can feel confident dealing with complex medical needs and even emergencies at home.
